YOU, YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS ARE INVITED TO JOIN ME, NATURALIST AND ABORIGINAL SKILLS INSTRUCTOR JIM ROBERTSON FOR AN ALL DAY OUTING/CLASS IN A SHADED OAK WOODLAND AREA … SO DON’T WORRY ABOUT THE HEAT, WE WILL SPEND MOST OF OUR TIME IN THE SHADE OF THE OAKS.
WE WILL PROCESS ACORNS (THAT I HARVESTED FROM THE WILD) FROM SCRATCH, THE “OLD” (AND FUN!) WAY … USING MORTARS AND PESTLES TO CRACK OPEN THE SHELLS, POUND THE ACORNS TO A FINE FLOUR CONSISTENCY, LEACH THEM WITH WATER (WASH OUT THE TANIC ACID), THEN COOK THEM THE “OLD” WAY, ABORIGINAL STYLE ON THE OPEN CAMPFIRE USING SOAP STONES AS GRIDDLES.

WE WILL ADD OTHER TASTY WILD NATIVE  INGREDIENTS THAT I HARVESTED FROM THE WILD SUCH AS, CALIFORNIA BUCKWHEAT, ELDERBERRIES, AND TOYON BERRIES IN ADDITION TO ANOTHER DELICIOUS, NUTRITIOUS DESERT NATIVE CALLED MESQUETE.  CHIA, WALNUTS AND PINE NUTS WILL ALSO BE IN INCLUDED!

ACORNS WERE A STAPLE FOOD FOR OUR LOCAL INDIGENOUS PEOPLE AND IT’S TIME FOR US TO RE-CONNECT WITH THIS WONDERFUL FOOD IN A FUN, HEALTHY AND DELICIOUS WAY!
THERE WILL ALSO BE OPPORTUNITY TO PRACTICE OTHER ABORIGINAL SKILLS SUCH AS CORDAGE MAKING, WILD SOAP MAKING, NET MAKING, TRAPS, HAND DRILL AND BOW DRILL FIRE MAKING.

IF TIME ALLOWS, WE CAN TAKE A PLANT WALK TO MEET WITH MANY OF OUR PLANT FRIENDS AND LEARN OF THEIR MANY USES (AS OUR ANCESTORS DID) FOR FOOD (WE WILL TASTE SOME), MEDICINE, SHELTER AND OTHER UTILITARIAN PURPOSES.

WE WILL ALSO DISCUSS PLANT COMMUNICATION, ETHICAL HARVESTING WITH AWARENESS AND INTEGRITY AND THE LAW.
ECOLOGY WILL BE DISCUSSED AS WELL AS BEING STEALTHY AND HARMONIOUS IN THE WILD.
REMEMBER, ALL OF THESE SKILLS ARE PATHWAYS TO A DEEPER RELATIONSHIP/CONNECTION WITH OUR NATURAL ENVIRONMENT AND OURSELVES!

FEEL FREE TO PARTICIPATE FULLY, PARTIALLY OR SIMPLY ENJOY THE CAMARADERIE OF OTHER NATURE LOVERS AND OBSERVE THE HAPPENINGS.

INCLEMENT WEATHER NEVER CANCELS, IT IS AN IMPORTANT PART OF OUR PRACTICE, LEARNING AND ENJOYMENT!  SORRY, NO DOGS!
