Aboriginal Skills Class Friday June 28th

ABORIGINAL SKILLS OUTING
WITH JIM ROBERTSON
FRIDAY, JUNE 28TH
STARTING AT 9:30AM
(WITH OPTION TO CAMP OUT!)
IN THE BEAUTIFUL SAN GABRIEL MOUNTAINS (AZUZA AREA)

You your family and friends are invited to join me, naturalist and Aboriginal Skills instructor Jim Robertson for an all day outing in the beautiful San Gabriel Mountains (in the vicinity of Azusa).  This class will offer the option/opportunity to camp out!).

Only about 1 & 1/2 hour drive from my location in Santa Monica and soooo worth it!  There is a wonderful flowing river which we will cross several times (trekking poles or walking stick advised).  The river has many charming pools inviting a dip or even a swim, totally refreshing with nice cool temperature, not cold!

So don’t worry about the heat, the water feels great, there’s plenty of shade trees and the trail is relatively easy and level.

We will walk in approximately 1& 1/2 mile, taking our time enjoying the scenery while identifying many plants for food, medicine and utilitarian uses along the way.  Ecology of the area, ethical harvesting with mindful awareness, plant communication and being stealthy and harmonious in the wild will also be discussed.

After we reach our first destination, some of the skills we may practice will be:  shelter building, either wiki-up or lean-to style or both.  There is an incredible abundance of the yucca plant which offers the option to make yucca sandals, yucca baskets, yucca cordage, yucca soap, yucca containers, etc., net making, drop line fishing for those with small hooks and bait, aboriginal fire making, hand drill and bow drill methods with option to harvest your own fire kit from the wild and we will practice finding and drinking clean/potable water from the wild.  Making a primitive/quick/self bow can also be an option.

Remember, all of these skills are pathways to a deeper relationship/connection with our natural environment and ourselves.

Feel free to participate fully, partially or simply enjoy the camaraderie of other nature lovers and enjoy the happenings.

INCLEMENT WEATHER NEVER CANCELS, IT IS AN IMPORTANT PART OF OUR PRACTICE, LEARNING AND ENJOYMENT!  SORRY, NO DOGS.
